Description : Jane Austen's first work was titled: Lady Susan (later Northanger Abbey). She was just 18 when she wrote it; never to see it published during her lifetime. Set in the fleeting years of the 18th century, this is a tale of a young girl, Catherine Morland, who is somewhat lacking in heroine-like attributes and sophistication. Invited as a guest by friends residing in urban Bath, she meets the eccentric General Tilney, his son Henry and daughter Eleanor. She imagines mysteries of the Tilney home even as Henry is at pains to dispel her suspicions. The annoyed General however orders her out of Northanger Abbey. Henry follows her home and succeeds in explaining how his father disapproved of her on account of her perceived ordinary background. Catherine acquiesces. Good humour is restored when the General too relents and gives his blessings to Henry's marriage with Catherine.
